Attorney Kevin Flesch Illustrates Essential Measures if Involved in a Car Accident

Personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch, of  Flesch and Beck Law, lists the top ten essential tips on measures to take if involved in a car accident.

DENVER, CO

According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, approximately 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. Furthermore, an additional 20-50 million people are injured or disabled as a result of car accidents. “Unfortunately, car accidents are very common, and many of us will be involved in one at some point in our lives,” said personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch of Flesch and Beck Law. For those who have been involved in a car accident, Flesch lists the following ten tips:

No. 1: Call the appropriate police agency to document the accident. “Don’t move your vehicle unless instructed to by the police,” added Flesch.

No. 2: Tend to any injuries. “This includes yours as well as the occupants of your vehicle,” noted Flesch. “Make sure there are no life-threatening injuries.”

No. 3: Get witness information. Make sure to get telephone numbers, addresses and take a picture (if able) of the witnesses to the accident.

No. 4: Get insurance information from all vehicles involved. This includes the information for the driver and owner of the other vehicles, if they are different.

No. 5: Make sure to get policy information. “This should always include the agent’s contact information and driver’s license information,” stressed Flesch. “If the police suggest they are going to get all of the information, review it before everyone is released.”

No. 6: Take as many pictures of the accident scene as possible from various angles. If the accident is in an intersection, get pictures of the signal lights and other signage in the area.

No. 7: Get medical treatment right away. “Explain to your treating physician all of your aches and pains,” said Flesch. “Don’t leave anything out and make sure you follow the doctor’s orders.”

No. 8: File claims with all of the appropriate car insurance carriers. Confirm coverages relating to liability, medical pay, underinsured motorist insurance and uninsured motorist.

No. 9: Get competent legal representation that handles these matters regularly.

No. 10: Keep a diary of daily life after the accident. “Take notes about how you are feeling and how your treatment is going,” concluded Flesch. “Also keep track of lost wages and document other expenses and losses.”
