Attorney Carlos E. Sandoval Ensuring Immigrants have Workers’ Rights

“This area of the law still has to do with immigration, as many times we get calls from clients whose employers don’t pay them because of their immigration status,” said Sandoval, founder of Carlos E. Sandoval, P.A. “We are making sure employees are not being taken advantage of and that they know what their rights are and are able to make the right decisions. We also represent employers who are bringing foreign workers and want to give them the knowledge to make sure that they are complying with the law.”

Sandoval adds that he has seen a need in the community for this, as well as for his clients. “We want to meet those needs,” noted Sandoval. “It’s not just to help bring actions against companies, but also help companies understand their obligation to their employees so they do not get in trouble.”

The firm is educating employees on their rights, overtime rules, and that the right to be compensated for work done has nothing to do with their immigration status. The firm is also ensuring that employers know that they can’t discount any times that the employee is actually working, making sure that the employees are getting paid when they are supposed to be getting paid and that non-exempt employees are paid time and a half for any hours worked over 40 hours per week.

Sandoval has been named by both his clients and peers as one of the top immigration attorneys in South Florida. A Colombia native, he immigrated to the United States in 1996, where he settled in Miami.

Sandoval received his Bachelor’s degree with high honors from Florida International University with a major in International Relations and a minor is sociology. He later received his law degree with honors from the University of Florida and a certificate in International law.
