Colorado Realtor Terry Naber Educates Seniors on Buying or Selling a House

Real estate for seniors can present unique challenges. However, many problems can be prevented with the assistance of a Realtor who has extensive experience in this area, one who, like Naber, has obtained the Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designation, and is dedicated to assisting and protecting seniors with the daunting process in today’s computerized world.

No. 1: Whether buyer or selling, investigate possible incentives or pitfalls. “There can be Medicaid issues and other legal issues you should know about,” noted Naber, whose SRES designation gives her expert knowledge regarding many senior concerns, such as senior housing in all its forms, some estate law, elder care, family dynamics, aging in place and Medicare and Medicaid issues concerning real estate.

No. 2: Pack up memories and valuables. A life-time of memorabilia can clutter up your home. “You will get more money and sell faster if you can depersonalize the space, because it will look larger, cleaner and buyers will be able to imagine their own things in the home,” added Naber.

No. 3: Have a garage sale/sell on Craigslist. The easiest way to get rid of extra possessions is to have a garage sale, which not only saves the trouble of having to pack things up for storage, but can bring in extra cash. “You can also list unnecessary items on Craigslist. If you don’t use computers ask your SRES agent to recommend estate sale companies, charities that will pick up the items for you, or they may have their own resources to assist you in getting rid of unwanted items. A good agent will also help you stage your home to show off its best attributes. If repairs are needed, they can also help you avoid being scammed by recommending reputable contractors to do any necessary repairs.”
