Illinois Realtor Beverly Sivek Discusses Relocation Essentials

Relocating is synonymous with stress, particularly if moving a very long distance. “However, despite the immense toll relocating can take, there are ways to simplify the process,” said Beverly Sivek, broker/owner of Weichert, Realtors Advantage, Naperville. “May through September is the best time to move, as this is when moving companies are the busiest as people, especially families with children in school, use the summer months to move without disruption.”

For those in the process of or considering relocating, Sivek lists the following three tips to help alleviate the stress:

No. 1: Process emotions. “Always take the time to process your emotions about relocating, instead of just packing them away like you would your belongings,” stressed Sivek. “Sadness goes hand-in-hand with relocating, but keep in mind why you are moving and embrace the possibilities your new life has to offer.”

No. 2: Rid yourself of unnecessary items. The less one has to move, the better. When moving long distances, getting rid of unnecessary items is not only practical but essential. For possessions that can’t come along for the ride, the best way to unload them is to have a garage sale, sell them on Craigslist or Ebay or donate them.

No. 3: Hire a moving professional. “Fortunately for people relocating, they don’t have to move everything by themselves,” concluded Sivek. “If you have heavy furniture or other items, hire a professional mover. This can go a long way in reducing the stress of relocating.”
