Key Realty Columbus Broker Kathleen Fornes donates her time and financial support to annual children’s Saint Nicholas Day Party and Saint Patrick Church.
Saint Patrick Church in Columbus, OH, recently hosted its annual Saint Nicholas Day Party. It is sponsored by the church’s Marriage and Family Life Ministry and chaired by Fornes.
Fornes has been a volunteer member of the Saint Patrick Marriage and Family Life committee for over a decade. For the last five years, she has planned, organized and hosted the event as well as provided financial support.
“We invited all the children in the local community to our Saint Nicholas Day Party,” Fornes said. “We served lunch and there were crafts, games and prizes. High school-aged kids gained volunteer hours by helping us with the event.”
As a dedicated Saint Patrick volunteer and supporter, Fornes calls all the new parishioners and welcomes them, works the coffee and donuts once a month, volunteers and helps with trivia night and picks up supplies for the kitchen. “I am also a Eucharistic Minister, and organize and serve bereavement lunches,” she added. “These lunches occur at church after a funeral. I create the meal and then make a sign-up chart and send it out to volunteers, then show up and make sure the hall is set up for the correct numbers, and everything is baked, cooked, served and then cleaned up.”
Fornes is instrumental in maintaining the kitchen, which is used for nearly every ministry at St. Patrick Church. Located in the heart of Columbus and serving many in need, St. Patrick’s is a welcoming place. By assisting with trivia night and the Bethesda dinners, Fornes helps the church and others gain much-needed donations for ministries like the Faith Mission, Holy Family Soup Kitchen, Bethesda Healing, Right to Life, Women of Joy and for the new pipe organ project.
“Kathy has a heart for volunteering, a gift for baking, and incredible kindness which shows in all of the ministries that she assists. Without her, St. Patrick Church would not be able to help all of the people that it does on a daily basis,” concluded parishioner and client Erin Broestl. “And as true charity starts at home, it is also fitting that Kathy devotes so much energy to finding people the perfect home. She helped us buy our dream house and sell our old one, and she paid attention to every detail.”
