Attorney Aaron Woods Educates Drivers on Post-Car Accident Essentials

Aaron Woods, founder of Woods Law KC, LLC, in a NALA North American Speaker Series (NASS) segment discusses the top three things to consider when being involved in a car crash. After a car accident, it is imperative to know, one, “how to document everything,” said Woods in his NASS segment. “Two, how to get the necessary medical treatment. Three, how to get your vehicle fixed or totaled.”

Woods, who has focused his practice on personal injury law for more than 28 years, strongly advises documenting everything and calling the police to the scene, making sure the officer gets your side of the story. “Take pictures of all the vehicles involved and the scene,” noted Woods. One should also always write down the other driver’s name, address and phone number, or take a picture of their driver’s license and insurance card.

After an accident, one should always get the medical treatment they need. “Follow every instruction you receive from a medical provider and make sure you tell every provider at every visit everything that is a medical concern,” advised Woods.

Finally, if one has collision coverage on their vehicle, it is often easier to use one’s own insurance in the first instance and let one’s own insurance company recover the money from the other driver’s insurance company. “If the other driver didn’t have insurance, hopefully you have uninsured motorist coverage on your policy that will pay to fix your vehicle,” concluded Woods. “If your vehicle is totaled, make sure you actually value your vehicle appropriately by checking for comparable vehicles on cars.com, autotrader.com, or some other site.”
