RE/MAX Gold Coast Escrow Collects 30 Units of Blood for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles

RE/MAX Gold Coast Realtors recently hosted a blood drive for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in which it collected 30 units of blood.

“RE/MAX Gold Coast Escrow put on the drive and asked me to give blood, but I’m not allowed to give blood because I lived in The UK between 1980 and 1996. That rule is in place to minimize the risk of spreading Mad Cow Disease, so I figured I could find a way to give blood,” said RE/MAX Gold Coast Escrow Realtor Gillian Bartley. “I asked eight people (because I lived in England for eight years) to take my place and donate blood at our blood drive. The blood is benefiting the Children’s Hospital LA, in part to minimize the risk of spreading Mad Cow Disease.”

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution that provides pediatric health care and helps its patients more than 528,000 times each year in a setting designed just for their needs. As the first and largest pediatric hospital in Southern California, CHLA relies on the generosity of philanthropists in the community to support compassionate patient care, leading-edge education of the caregivers of tomorrow and innovative research efforts that impact children at its hospital and around the world.

There is always a child who needs one’s blood type at the hospital. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has one of the largest and most successful Neonatal Intensive and Critical Care Units, making blood needs great. Platelets, the blood component necessary for clotting, are the most used component for children undergoing bone marrow transplant therapy or chemotherapy.

RE/MAX Gold Coast Escrow will be hosting another blood drive in six months. “I’m committed to finding eight more people to take my place every year,” concluded Bartley. “It doesn’t sound like many, but I was surprised at how hard it was to get eight people to say yes. One pint of blood at a time can go a long way collectively.”
