Realtor Kathy Turkell Discusses why the Land of Enchantment is the Ideal Relocation Destination

New Mexico is known as the “Land of Enchantment,” and for good reason. In addition to its eclectic landscape, endless vistas, and the more than 300 days of sunshine per year, New Mexico also has beautiful mountains and parks and a long, rich history truly inviting you to explore. 

“In fact, at Bandelier National Monument, Gila Cliff Dwellings or Three Rivers Petroglyphs you will see signs of human habitation dating from 11,000 years ago,” said Kathy. “The petroglyphs, pictographs and cliff dwellings will give you a glimpse into the lives of some of the state’s first residents. The hunting and fishing in New Mexico are also great and the state provides residents with a wealth of other outdoor activities including skiing and boating. New Mexico is definitely not just desert.”

If you have ever dreamed of being an extra in a movie, the film industry is booming due to the number of days of great weather. Local music and theatre are ongoing and the number of microbreweries and local wineries are growing, and if arts and crafts are your thing, there are so many great galleries, farmer’s markets and craft fairs to keep you supplied with eye candy or cause you to dream of decorating your new home with some of your newly acquired treasures.

For those considering relocating and becoming new New Mexico residents, Ms. Turkell shares the following three tips on why it’s a great place to call home: 

No. 1: Affordable housing. The median home value in New Mexico is $167,600. “So, if you’re looking for a place where you can buy a home and get on the property ladder, New Mexico is a solid option,” noted Turkell. “There are also plenty of jobs for skilled workers. If you are retired, there are properties for most every budget. If you have need for a secluded, high-end property, a lovely resale property may be purchased or have your dream home built by any number of very talented contractors.”

No. 2: Low property taxes. “In fact, New Mexico property taxes are some of the lowest in the country,” stated Turkell. According to SmartAsset, the median annual property tax paid by homeowners in New Mexico is $1,232, about $1,000 less than the national median. Disabled veterans may pay zero property taxes with the proper paperwork supplied to the residing county. 

No. 3: Booming housing market. As national home sales activity continues to be hampered by affordability and interest rate issues, New Mexico’s housing market has been consistently strong and affordable.
