Summit County’s Top Dental Provider Opens a Sedation Dentistry Practice in Salida

Dr. Nicholas Brown, the owner and founder of Relaxation Dental Specialties (RDS), is taking over Dr. Greg Bixby’s practice at 1222 C St. in Salida after Bixby announced his plans for retirement earlier this summer. The practice will operate under the RDS name and will offer advanced procedures that most dental offices have to refer elsewhere, such as oral surgeries, cosmetic dentistry, dental implant placement, Invisalign and Sedation Dentistry techniques. Gone are the days when people travel to Denver or Colorado Springs for dental procedures.

Sedation Dentistry is the main area of expertise for Dr. Brown and RDS, an offering that only 1% of dentists in the state of Colorado are certified to perform. Sedation Dentistry allows patients with fear of the dentist or those undergoing serious procedures to snooze through their appointments using medication administered orally or through an IV. “Sedation Dentistry allows a lot more people to maintain optimal oral health,” says Dr. Brown. “So many people avoid the dentist out of fear or because they’ve had bad experiences in the past, but I don’t think dental work needs to be stressful! My expertise in Sedation Dentistry gives me the opportunity to help people who otherwise never would have gone to the dentist.”

Dr. Brown has started seeing patients in the C Street location near Salida High School with Dr. Bixby’s guidance. Dr. Bixby, who specializes in Temporo Mandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders and sees patients from all over Colorado, will assist Dr. Brown throughout the remainder of the year before retiring. “Salida is lucky to have Dr. Brown as a new option for dentistry!” stated Bixby. “It’s unusual to have someone with Dr. Brown’s skillset open a practice in a small town like ours. He’s a small town guy himself though, so I think he feels right at home here.”
