Center for Surrogate Parenting Examines Why Egg Donation Anonymity is Over

Elaine Gordon, Ph.D., who has been evaluating surrogate mothers for the Center for Surrogate Parenting, Inc. for over 25 years, recently presented at a fertility conference. The topic of Dr. Gordon’s speech was “No more anonymous egg donation, even though doctors and fertility clinics still advertise it.”

“With the internet, DNA testing and social media sites the time of anonymous sperm and egg donation is now officially over,” said Dr. Gordon. “However, many fertility doctors and fertility clinics still market for donors by advertising that their donors will remain anonymous.”

Currently, there are a number of social media sites and also on Ancestry.com where those who are related can easily find each other. As for Dr. Gordon, her work does not end once a reproductive success is achieved or when a baby arrives, but continues as she helps families tackle issues regarding secrecy, disclosure and talking to one’s children about their beginnings.
